Merry Christmas! Hopefully you are enjoying the festive times with loved ones and favorite activities. As a quick celebration post, here is a photo of my Christmas tree of life (covered with creatures from throughout the history of life) and some festive sugar flounder cookies which I made. Also the James Webb space telescope has blasted off successfully from French Guiana and is on its way to Earth’s second Legrange point. We will talk more about the scope as it gets closer to its destination, but right now lets enjoy some eggnog and some winter naps with our beloved pets!

From French Guiana. Guyana is a different country.

Fixed! THANK YOU for helping out with your keen eye. Apparently I think of Guyana as being like Germany which is a geographic place in my head no matter how it is subdivided into nations du jour like “East Germany”, “West Germany”, or “French Germania.”
This seems like a stupid, crazy thing to think, now that I write it out loud!

Well, I have to be honest: I only know that because in the past couple weeks, my sister and I have been watching a UK show called _Desmond’s_, in which the chief characters are a couple who immigrated from Guyana and their UK-born children. So we looked up a bit about Guyana and its history. I do recommend both the show and the history!

Oh, and actually you’re not wrong about the country being split. There was French portion (now French Guiana), a UK portion (Guyana), and a third portion (Portuguese, I think, that is now apart of another country on the north coast of South America). So it’s not as crazy as you think!
