This year, I have been carrying a small sketchbook and some colored pencils around with me and doodling in it. Here are three small drawings/sketches that I made when I was doing other things. I sketched the mountains with the giant, the fountain, and the goblin on the subway (although I colored some of it in at my desk afterwards). The picture of lower Manhattan comes from the picture window on the 9th floor of the Brooklyn courthouse from my day of jury duty (don’t worry I wasn’t skiving from my civic duty–but there was a lot of downtime). I sketched the donut baby while I was talking to a friend about stickers and Philistines (Biblical and otherwise) so it may have been influenced by that peculiar conversation.
Kindly let me know what you think! I’m afraid have been running around trying to figure out my new job, so please forgive me for my tardy responses to comments during the past week. I love comments & I promise I will answer everybody. Just give me a moment to figure out how everything works!

Loving them all !! I like the colors and the compositions I like the tall fellow in the Gods picture he looks quite a humble chap as he is snootching up to make room for all the others but isn’t making it a big deal . Thank you for sharing !!

Thanks so much, frithkin! I like that guy too: I feel like he is one of my gods–mighty and divine but inclusive and compassionate. I wish humankind had been able to scooch up a little and make room for the poor mammoths….

That’s totally the vibe I got from that big guy like he was just chillin all calm and stuff my kind of God . Not all vengeful jealous and capricious like deities .

Do you do a lot of art or is this just a hobby kind of thing? I like your style by the way for what its worth . I have been thinking for a while about why it is people like particular pieces of art , why the piece speaks to them were others do not .
Still thinking on it .

Yes I do quite a lot of art! There is a link to my online painting gallery over there on the left somewhere (hopefully…it’s hard to tell how people’s devices will display things). The mysteries of taste are quite perplexing–I think all 7 (large) volumes of “Remembrance of Things Past” were really about just that question–and I’m not sure it got fully resolved.

I don’t think they were resolved either !! I will check out your blog on the web so I can see more of your art work I like it a lot so thanks for sharing it 👍😊

I thought the fish priest was funny and scary at the same time.

For the benefit of lazy readers, here is a link. I really love all three works–especially the knitter. I am looking forward to finding out more about her.

I wanted to recommend an artist/ musician Steve Kilbey of the band the Church , your art puts me in mind of his a little a kind of otherworldly ( with the otherworld being a very beautiful though very strange and different world ) quality too it , a sense of whimsy too . Thanks again for sharing your great stuff with us lucky people and take care .

And your sketch of Manhattan puts me in mind of one of my favorite Australian artists who worked largely in the 1920’s Grace Cossington Smith .
In your picture and many of hers I get a sense of promise , of optimism and invigorating enthusiasm about the future . Sorry for sending you so many comments please don’t feel the need to knock yourself to reply .

I think my blogging schedule is getting wobblier as I work longer hours at the grim gray office–but I will keep posting something, and I’ll always answer comments (albeit sometimes slower than I would like).

I love your art so much but I realized that what really makes me belly laugh is your wonderful DESCRIPTIONS of the characters & what they’re doing. You sound almost incredulous as if the characters just leapt from your mind whole & unique unto themselves like Athena! Like, “I donnow guys, but look what this funny little fish is like- what’s she doing there?! Maybe she…” & on!! You should do some books, esp for kids- we need beautiful, creative, imaginative ‘escapism’ so much now. Thanks for being you & sharing with us! You are good people. Cheers Wayne!

Aww! Thanks Kristi! That really means a lot to me. I used to make children’s toys and it was truly rewarding to see children playing with them. Maybe creating a picture book would likewiae be a rewarding way to combine writing and visual art!
